Ponting still refuses to walkHe may have 3 of the last 4 Ashes and not scored a 100 in recent memory but he is playing on. Maybe his efforts to help his team win the Sheffield Shield suggested to him that he still has what it takes to be a great player.

Every week there's a new Ponting headline. How long has it been since it was for actually performing?

His last hundred in tests was his 200 vs Pakistan about 15 months ago when he was "dropped" for a duck. Since his 150 in the first Test match at Cardiff in 2009, his only 2 scores above 78 are his 200 and the 89 in the first innings.
ODIs is a little bit better, but not much.
I don't think many tears will be spilt in Australia if he throws in the towel after the World Cup. The only problem with him retiring is that Clarke will take over captaincy.
The talk for a while has been he will retire from ODIs after the world cup with Clarke taking over and Clarke retiring from T20s (which he has obvisouly already done). The Ashes loss (and how big it was) will also put more preasure on his Test captaincy.

Ponting has played below his career potential for about a year now and hence a chatter about why he should retire beginnng with ODIs. I believe, he still retains his place on merit and is capable of returning to splendid form. Nasser Hussain expressed his desire to play 100 tests in a syndicated column but retired as soon as Andrew Strauss made a confident debut. Khawaja made a promising start at Sydney but nothing to suggest that Ricky should not be given any more chances.

To either stay on or retire based on a new player's debut match is not basing your decision on much, but I guess in Nasser's case, he wasn't worth a extravagant amount to the team to begin with.

Twatto!!!!
I only caught the back end of it (I think he was 92 off about 62 when I switched on) and there was a lot of slogging and flat track bullying but shit it was good hitting.
15 sixes (world record), most runs in boundaries (150 odd - better than the next by about 25-30), biggest % of runs (80%, about 10% better than the next best - Viv Richards 189*, highest individual score by an Aussie, 3rd quickest hundred fro an Aussie (69 balls - missed record by 3 balls). I couldn't find anything conclusive in my quick search, but it is probably the fastest every 150 as well.
I reckon it is has to be the highest international score from anyone from Ipswich (the Qld one).
