My Favourite Cricketer - Marcus Trescothick.
I was worried for Tres when Fletcher picked him from my native Somerset - remember Mark Lathwell? However, he took to international cricket utterly naturally. He left well, and needed minimal footwork to hit muderously through cover and dealt with spin by putting it over midwicket. Freddie gets the plaudits for Edgbaston '05 but it was Trescothick's brutal start that set the tone. My favourite knock was 2003 against the SA, a commanding 219 to set up a 9 wicket and series win. Without his illness he would have I think become the highest English run getter and was a key component in the 05 side. Such a shame that the calm, unflustered manner at the crease hid the torment underneath which ultimately ended his career .
