Michaelmas Report Card: One swallow does not a summer make

by ben 1. November 2010 13:42

Overview, Mike Brearley OBE BPC, Headmaster

Having observed Pakistan for almost six straight months I am very disappointed with her progress. Whilst we all know that she is talented her continued ill discipline and lack of effort is leading her to fall behind the other members of the class. We have discussed before, at parents' evening, the significance of preparation ahead of the World Cup and the importance of revision. I am concerned that Pakistan is not taking these exams seriously and without a major change in approach over the coming months will let herself down. After doing so well in her World T20s last year this would be a great shame and we all need to work together to help turn Pakistan around. Looking at the comments from Pakistan's other teachers I think it would be helpful if you came in for a chat about Pakistan, as stability and encouragement at home must go alongside what we at the World Cricket Academy teach.

Donald Bradman AC, Batting

Pakistan has wonderful natural talent but constantly fails to apply herself to her work. In class she can be disruptive; taunting and goading other students, and she has not responded well to attempts to correct this behaviour. At times Pakistan can be a joy to teach and shows wonderful ability but without the hard work and study that is required she continues to produce slapdash and unfinished work. I sense that Pakistan can be easily distracted and wonder if her current friends and homelife are a help or hindrance to her chances of future success.

Michael Holding, Bowling

I have rarely had the pleasure to teach a student with such wideranging and exciting talent. Pakistan has at times shown skills far beyond her years but unfortunately she can also exhibit immature and childish behaviour unbecoming of the young lady she is blossoming into. I notice recently that, following her disciplinary suspension for smoking behind the bikeshed, she has lost some vigour and incisiveness but I hope and believe that this is just a temporary phenomenon. I believe that Pakistan is more than capable of achieving a top grade in her World Cup in April and May but she cannot rest on her previous laurels and must find the spark which served her so well at the beginning of this academic year.

Riche Benaud OBE, Housemaster

This can be a difficult time in a young lady's life and Pakistan seems to have experienced some personal turmoil which has started to affect her academic life. I trust that this is a short term blip but would be more confident if she took a long look at who she associates with and the impact they have on her life. Pakistan is a beloved member of the House and the other girls would be devastated to see her go but she must be careful not to burn too many bridges. I have faith that Pakistan can perform well in her World Cup but she must live by a mantra with which she is all too familiar...

MUST TRY HARDER
