On the face of it yesterday's games featured two pairs of evenly matched teams and what we got was two blow out victories. Australia's big hitting proved too much for an India side lacking quality pace bowling and Mahela Jayawardene beat the West Indies on his own. Australia look like a fearsome side and unless someone can knock them out in the semi-final (in St Lucia) I think they will win the tournament. No side has the fast bowling to compete with them on a quickish Kensington Oval strip. They come up against Sri Lanka tomorrow in Bridgetown and it will be great to watch Jayawardene up aginst Nannes and Tait.
In slightly different circumstances Dilshan managed to score less than 17.5 runs (he was sent in for the last delivery!) which was a nice bonus. Australia also beat their runs total comfortably which was a tip I tweeted (@greatneb) before the game started. Whilst caveats aren't any good for losing bets I did pick West Indies to win absent another Jayawardene ton and given he got 98 they lost. With some other Sri Lankan batsmen starting to find form they are looking an increasingly dangerous side.
For today we start with New Zealand vs Pakistan and with both teams having lost their first Elite Eights (surely a better name than Super Eights) game a defeat means almost certain elimination. New Zealand are the favourites and I think they will manage to win. Alas I can't find anywhere to bet on Scott Styris to continue his great form with bat and ball but Umar Akmal has started to look dangerous for Pakistan and I like the over on his runs at 17.5 at CricketBetLive.
For the England game I like under 19.5 runs for the opening partnership against Steyn and Morkel. It's going to be a great game and I think the key is for England to bat first and try and put pressure on South Africa with their slow bowlers. No idea who will win but it should be a good game.
No real top pick today, at a push my favourite bet is Umar Akmal > 17.5 runs. Good luck.
